[ Wataru nods sheepishly. Though it's embarrassing to admit, the reason why he agreed to help Everett with his business without much of a protest is because the faun has his way with words, and spending everyday with him feels like an enrichment for his own wellbeing. Not to mention a job means money, and he needs it quite urgently.
Lorenz's laugh catches him a bit off guard. Was the question formulated in a silly way he didn't notice? ]
Oh... yeah, I suppose my question was kind of redundant.
[ He proceeds slowly, their chat admittedly distracting him from the dance. ]
Do you have an idea of how to make people smile? Perhaps helping the refugees and orphans?
[ It's something he does on his spare time, and they love it when he comes over to play some violin for them. ]
[ He needs his energies! It's not the end of his work here yet, after all, and the mixture of sugars and carbs might get him back on his feet without falling over.
Wataru watches Yuya for a minute, slowly finishing his own sausage. ]
[ He would very likely demean his own talent if he listened to Connor play, but with no comparison to go by, he curtly nods with a tiny blush over his cheeks.
His steps are a bit slower now that he's got a steady conversation going. ]
Did they elaborate on why your performance would be "stiff"? Was it your pose or the music itself?
[ He chews the rich flavoured cupcake with gusto, stopping just short of eating the last bite as he thinks her reply over. ]
I'm not really an expert, and I have no idea of the history behind this. [ Smiling, he plucks another red velvet cupcake and holds it out to her. ] But you can have a taste. It's like eating a chocolate pastry. My guess is that they used a colorant to make it so red.
[ In reality, Wataru is also a nerd, though on the subject of music instead. He can resonate with her desire of knowledge. ]
Perhaps there is some material to research here. I think there's a library around? [ He hums, his brain gears turning. ] With some effort, you can even find out something undiscovered about the full moon phenomenon.
[ Wataru mindlessly rubs a hand along his thigh and knee, seeking a bit of warmth from the chill night. His head is half turned towards Louis, not quite looking him in the eye now, but his attention is also directed at the other man. ]
I wanted... to connect with my father. [ It's weird to say something like this, so personal, but it feels kind of right. He'd been told many times that he should open his heart more to people, and while he opposed that sentiment so hard before, now he agrees with it. ]
He died before I was born, and all I learned about him was from my mother. He was an excellent violinist, so I thought that if I learned violin as well, I could somehow reach out to him.
[ There was more to that - that desire of his becoming obsession, the thousands of violins he crafted and destroyed because they didn't resemble his father's model, the many years he spent shutting himself into his manor and believing the world was horrible and full of evil.
None of that will come out of his mouth, but his dim expression still speaks something about it. ]
What came out of it wasn't exactly what I seeked, but... I'm glad that I took up violin. I don't regret it.
The music... it's missing something. Something I can't seem to replicate. It lacks a human's touch, I suppose. I'm at least hoping the more I play, the less I'll focus on sounding perfect and more on just... enjoying the music.
[He's been told that beginners do tend to focus more on sounding good than just enjoying themselves, and he's certainly no exception.]
[ It's rather important for him too. One positive thing about never going to school was that at least he would have never thought of taking a desk job.
[ Louis can't relate, though he does listen with his full attention to Wataru. Let's him share what he wants with him. Because he seems like a nice guy, and he can appreciate people following their passion and gifts and going for it. That's something he can understand - working towards a goal. Trying hard to get what he wanted.
He got it. He related to that. ]
Well, for what it's worth, regardless of where you ended up - it was worth it. You have that hard-earned skill now. [ He is careful not to say 'talent' or 'gift'. Since Wataru said he worked to learn it. ]
I would have never thought of using it as a way to connect with someone, though. [ Also can't relate. He doesn't want to, really. ]
[ Vanitas doesn't have to go along with any of this, of course. Just because Wataru is thinking of heading outside doesn't mean that Vanitas has to follow after him. Even if he does, then Van can always walk in a different direction.
But he's curious as to why Wataru would change his mind. It hadn't felt like it mattered that he was "overestimating" his capacity to party before. ]
Have it your way.
[ He makes a gesture for "lead the way." Van will follow. ]
In all honesty, I didn't find a solid bond either, and as a witch I'm aware of the consequences in regards of the magic overdrive. To this day I'm pretty much forced to cast spells so my body won't give up under all that pressure.
So, to answer your question... if you really think I'm the right person for it, I'll accept the offer.
In that case, thank you for choosing me. I'll do my best to keep our bond solid for as long as we're allowed to be tied.
After getting the preparations done and going through the ritual, let's find some time window to talk about ourselves peacefully. There's also to consider the fact I have a job now and visit the Coven frequently for magic lessons.
[ He listen with keen attention. Honestly he can relate a little bit, because he at first did want to be perfect like his father before realizing later on that he was going about it in a completely wrong way. ]
If you have no other reason to play than be perfect, it would sound as though your music has no heart. There needs to be something deeper to it, like what you said - you should want to enjoy the music, for your own sake, and convey your feelings to the listener.
